MonaLisa Touch Vaginal Laser Q & A

What is vaginal atrophy?

Vaginal atrophy generally happens during perimenopause or menopause as your estrogen drops, although it can also happen after childbirth. Usually, the biggest complaint is vaginal dryness, which can make sexual intercourse unpleasant to extremely painful.

This condition leaves your vaginal tissue less elastic and excessively itchy, while also causing a burning sensation. Not only is vaginal atrophy uncomfortable, but you can also be more prone to infections if you leave it untreated.

How does the MonaLisa Touch Vaginal Laser work?

During your visit, your practitioner will gently place a small probe in and around your vagina. The probe contains a laser which helps stimulate collagen (a connective tissue) production in your vaginal skin. Over time, new collagen forms, which restores tissues and natural rehydration.

Can a MonaLisa Touch treatment improve looseness in my vagina?

It depends. You’ll have to go through an exam so your provider can find out what’s causing the increase in the diameter of your vagina. If he or she finds that your condition is caused by tone loss to your vaginal skin, MonaLisa can help improve any looseness you may have by tightening that skin.

Does the treatment hurt?

Not at all. If you have had a pap smear or even had a bikini wax, you’ve already felt — and survived — some discomfort in your vaginal area. What you’ll feel during your MonaLisa Touch session isn’t painful — it’s just a little buzzing.

Most women don’t feel more than some warmth and light vibrations. Be sure to inform your practitioner of any discomfort you are feeling.

Will I need more than one session?

Some women are completely satisfied with the improvement they have after just one session, while others need a few treatments. It’s typical to have anywhere from one to three sessions to get the results you want.

Because your body will need time to heal itself, you’ll have to wait 40-60 days between appointments. But your practitioner can let you know what to expect and about how many appointments you’ll need to heal your vaginal atrophy, during your consultation.
